
Perilla, Red
Also known as Red Shisho. Use fresh in salads, soups, and as a garnish for fish. Has a cinnamon or clove fragrance and flavor. Used in Japan to make tempura, and to color pickled plums. Its purple-red leaves are attractive in the herb garden. Aggressively self-sows. (Perilla frutescens)
Growing instructions: Annual. Germinates at 70°F in 10 days. Germination is light dependent. Direct sow. Full sun. Grows 18" tall. Space 8-12" apart. Self-sows aggressively.
