Doe Hill Golden Bell
Extra-early. A pre-1900 heirloom from the Doe Hill area in Highland County of Western Virginia. Ripens from green to gold. This should be a garden mainstay: it is dependable, early, and productive. 'Doe Hill Golden Bell' produces 4- to 6-lobed bright orange, pumpkin-shaped bells, 2 1/4" wide x 1" high. The 24" tall plants bear very early in the season, well ahead of the larger bells. The plants are widely adapted and disease-resistant. The flavor is sweet, with a fruity, multi-dimensional quality. A nice salad pepper for adding color, zip, and extra vitamin C to early summer salads.
