Feathery foliage with gray-blue flowers which produce pods of black seeds. Used to spice Indian dhals (lentil dishes) and Russian rye bread. Seeds are very aromatic and impart a flavor reminiscent of peppery nutmeg. Use seeds whole, dry roasted or ground to flavor vegetables, curries, and pulses. (Nigella sativa)
Medicinal: Used in India as a carminative and diaphoretic.
Growing instructions: Annual. Germination at 70°F in 7 to 14 days. Transplant or direct sow. Space 4"-6" apart. Full sun. Grows 12" tall.
