
Basil, Dark Opal
Introduced by the University of Connecticut around 1950. Ornamental dark purple basil used like common basil for seasoning. Dark purple leaves have a metallic green undertone or sheen in bright light, and plants may occasionally produces a few green leaves. Beautiful on salads. Slow to flower and holds well. (Ocimum basilicum purpureum)
Growing instructions: Annual. Germination at 70°F in 7-14 days. Direct sow or transplant after last frost. Full sun. Grows 16" tall. Space 12-16" apart.
