
Saint Johnswort
A woody-stemmed herb with balsam scented leaves and clusters of yellow, lemon-scented flowers. (Hypericum perforatum)
Medicinal: Harvest flowers shortly after the plant comes into bloom. Olive oil extracts of the flowers impart a red color to the oil. Anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-depressive. Many other uses for this multi-faceted herb.
Growing instructions: Perennial in zones 3-8. For best germination, stratify seed for 6 weeks before planting. Germination at 70°F in 7-10 days. Transplant or direct sow in spring or fall. Full sun. Grows 12-24" tall. Space 9-12" apart. Slow growing at first.
