
Ashwagandha
This member of the Solanaceae (tomato family) is from India. While it is easy to grow, it does not do well in cool, wet conditions. (Withania somnifera)
Medicinal: The roots are harvested in the fall after the first frost frost. Used in Ayurvedic medicine as a ginseng-like strengthening tonic that is used primarily to treat weakness and exhaustion.
Growing instructions: Annual. Germination at 70°F in 14 days. Transplant after last frost when soil is warm. Space 12" apart. Full sun. Grows 24"-36" tall.
